General Statement of Job Duties:

Has the responsibility of maintaining bus route, schedule, stop data used by area transit agencies in their ITS systems, including but not limited to automatic passenger counters, AVL/Real-Time system, and Google Transit Trip Planner.  Additional duties include but are not limited to:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Updates ITS systems for service changes, and assists maintenance personnel with data updates to vehicle head signs and automatic voice enunciators and shelter signs.
  • Compiles, sorts and verifies the accuracy of all data before it is deployed to the transit ITS systems.
  • Maintains, updates, and administers the regional data maintenance protocol to ensure that all ITS systems are updated with accurate data within the appropriate implementation timeline.
  • Acts as the primary contact for support / maintenance calls with vendors who host/develop the transit ITS systems.
  • Maintains constant communication with service planners and stops/amenities coordinators to plan for system updates for transit service changes.
  • Maintains a monthly service calendar to ensure that all ITS systems properly reflect each transit system's service plan (i.e. hours of operation, reduced service, holidays, etc.).
  • Conducts ongoing training sessions for supervisors and dispatchers on using the ITS systems and software.
  • Generates historical reports from the ITS systems as requested by supervisors, service planners, and other personnel.
  • Serves as the contact for coordinating real time route service changes for partner agencies and assists with ITS preparation for university transit systems as needed.
  • Performs weekly checks on electronic shelter signs for GoTriangle and GoDurham to ensure they are functional.
  • Deploys holiday, adverse weather and detour schedules for to the GoDurham and GoTriangle AVL systems.
  • Maintains bus stop database for all of the partner agencies, working closely with the Transit Amenities staff to maintain accurate stop information.
  • Provides accurate holiday information for all transit agencies and universities semester break schedule to the Regional Information Center in a timely manner.
  • Stores completed documents, user manuals, and reports in appropriate locations.
  • Other duties assigned.


Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field plus 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and navigate electronic maps.
  • Requires database management skills.
  • Experience with working in computer databases and Crystal reports.
  • Ability to independently work on several program objectives at once.
  • Excellent organization skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in the public transit industry is preferred.
  • Experience using Trapeze software is preferred.
  • Exceptional level of interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate with government officials, staff, and the general public.
  • Must have a working understanding of PC's including the Microsoft Office Packages to include experience with working in computer databases (Access, Excel, SQL).


An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
